Gold and polychrome. Technical study, conservation and restoration.

Description

The gilding and the silvering with metallic loaves is an ancestral technique, a craft that has been used since the first civilizations of Classical Antiquity and is perpetuated to the present day. The study of the different existing techniques, with the technical knowledge of each of the manufacturing methodologies and processes, facilitates their identification in case of conservation and restoration procedures.
Apart from the current and innovative intervention criteria applicable by their nature, the specific alteration factors that act by deteriorating the golden, silver and polychrome surfaces are studied, laying the basis for their conservation and restoration, together with the optimum conditions of preventive conservation to avoid their deterioration.
